Summer Eye Makeup Tips – Look Great even in Scorching Heat

Summer is full of wonderful things — but  smeared eyeliner, seems to streak, run, smear and fade away before we even get out the door is not among them. This can be annoying, especially when you don’t have time to re-apply or do touch-ups often, But with these great eye makeup tips for summer, you don’t have to feel so annoyed anymore.

We asked top makeup artists to spill their best tips for keeping eye-makeup looking fresh and pretty, even when the weather is working against you.

  • Switch Products

In the summertime, it’s important to switch to products that can handle the heat, Cream eye shadows, gel or cream liners and liquid liners just aren’t meant to worn as much in humid times. They tend to melt and crease much worse!

So switch to waterproof mascaras and liners, pencil forms, and powder eye shadows.

  • Set your Eye Makeup

After applying your makeup, you always want to set it. It’s a good idea to do this in the wintertime but most definitely do it in the summer time. Setting your makeup with powder will absorb extra oil and sweat, and keep your makeup from sliding everywhere.

Use a big fluffy brush and apply a loose or pressed powder all over your face. Pat it in on rather than rubbing it on. Patting helps to keep the powder in place on your eyes and on your face as well.

  • Skip lining the lower Lash line

During summertime, you should always skip lining my bottom lash line, or applying mascara there as well. This is because mascara and liner start getting tacky in the heat, and then they start slipping down into those little lines under your eyes.

Your eyes make oils on the surrounding skin that only encourage this more. In order to avoid it, skip lining the bottom lashes. If you feel you cannot do that, applying concealer first will help a bit. Concealer fills in the fine lines so that your liner won’t drip into them.

  • Go Lighter

One of my top summer eye makeup tips is to switch to lighter colors. During summer time, you can go a bit more natural, so don’t be afraid to leave your gray and black shadows in the dust, at least for a while. Use lighter, happier colors like pink, champagne, bronze and silver. Lighter colors tend to make creasing less noticeable and run less, so you’ll be doing yourself a favor. And opt for a brown liner over a black one, which will be a bit more summery as well.

  • Use less Makeup

I’m a firm believer in this summer eye makeup tip. Perhaps if we didn’t use quite as much makeup, there would be less to melt off and slide around!

Do you REALLY need a full-fledged makeup job to go play beach volleyball or hang out at the park?

No, of course not. Save that for parties and office work. Using less makeup will keep your look from running away-literally. Go for a little mascara, maybe a swipe of nude, shimmery eye shadow, then call it a day. You will enjoy your day so much more than you would if you were worried over melting makeup the whole time.

  • Apply a Base first

I think many women fail to realize that their makeup would not do a disappearing act halfway through the day if they would remember to apply a base coat first. Your eye shadow and liner need something to cling to. Apply a concealer, eye shadow primer-even a tiny drop of foundation would do in a pinch.

Use whatever you have on hand as a base before you put on shadow. This will help give your eye makeup staying power throughout the day.

  • Use one coat of Mascara

Two coats of mascara is always a pretty look, and I’m all for it. But do you really need it on a pretty summer day?

No! Be natural. One coat of mascara will give you some added oomph. Two coats of mascara will encourage clumping and flaking, especially during hot, humid days. Even a waterproof mascara may be prone to flaking with two coats applied.

Also, don’t do mascara touch-ups throughout the day. This can and usually will lead to a clumpy, cakey look that is NOT attractive for anyone.

COLOR THEORY- THE BEST EYE SHADOWS COMBO

Red, yellow, pink, green, blue, purple and orange. When I think of all these shades, I think of the endless opportunities that they bring … for eye makeup. I love blending eye shadow shades and I know things can get a bit “muddy” if the wrong color combos are used. To help you avoid a makeup meltdown, I’ve included some of my favorite shadow pairings for you to try at home.

  • Golden and Brown – This dynamic duo makes a subtle smokey eyes and results in both elegant and striking.

  • Burnt Orange and Navy – Burnt orange really pops on the lid, creating a point of focus. Navy when blended into lash line, provides a nice contrast and lends a trendy age.

  • Cream and Taupe – Matte cream and Taupe makes a classic shadow pair that works great for any outfit and any occasion.

  • Rose and Champagne – This look is simple. Apply the champagne to the whole lid, extending past the Crease. Pop the rose on the top lid stopping at the crease. Blend the shadow well so that the color transition is seamless.

  • Neon Blue and Lime Green – Try using them as eye liners, with Lime Green along the top lash line and blue on the lower.

SMOKEY AND SIMPLE EYE SHADOW SHADES

The eyes are the windows to the soul, and what better way to accentuate their beauty than well crafted eye makeup?

Smokey eye looks are particularly popular. They’re dramatic and mysterious all at once.

But what colors do you choose? Maybe you don’t really feel like a heavy smokey eye look, and would prefer something simpler.

Eye shadow looks for Brown Eyes

Smokey eye for Brown Eyes – black, brown, taupe and bronze

Brown eyes can afford to opt for darker colors. Colors like black, brown, taupe and bronze create depth whilst accentuating the warmth of brown eyes. Bronze shimmer on the center of the lid not only gives this smokey eye more of a party feel, but should also help make your brown eyes sparkle that bit more.

Simple eye makeup for Brown Eyes – cobalt blue, emerald green, violets and mauve/lilacs.

While you may opt for dark vampy eyes as a smokey evening look, for simple daytime looks you might choose lighter colors. Cobalt blue makes dark eyes appear lighter, whilst emerald and purple hues compliment chocolate tones.

Eye shadow looks for Green Eyes

Smokey eye makeup for Green Eyes – forest green, gold/bronze and browns

Jewel tones look best on those with green peepers because green eyes often have combinations of shades of green and brown running through them. Jewel tones really bring out those streaks of extra color. Forest green, brown and bronze combinations are particularity gorgeous for green eyes. Dramatic shades of purple also compliment.

Simple eye makeup for Green Eyes – mauve, purple, warm pinks

Because mauve, warm pinks and other lighter purples are perhaps closer to human skin tones; they work great for a more natural eye shadow look that greatly compliments green or hazel eye colors. For day or simpler looks we recommend opting for a matte shadow rather than one with loads of shimmer (which is usually more suitable for a more demure look).

Eye shadow looks for Blue Eyes

Smokey eye makeup for Blue Eyes – navy blue, grey, silver

Blue-eyed beauties should miss out on all the dramatic smokey eye shadow goodness. Instead of jumping for that jet black eye shadow opt for more metallic shades like grey and silver. If you want to create a deeper color, opt for darker shades like navy and royal blue. These colors are dark enough to create a smokey shadow effect, but aren’t too over powering that they detract or dull your own gorgeous eyes.

Simple eye makeup for Blue Eyes – shades of pink/peach, copper

When thinking about more day-to-day looks, those blue eyes of yours can allow you to get more creative while your smokey look may have had more of an icy metallic effect. Using shades of pink, peach and copper, create a warmer more neutral look that is perfect for the daytime.
